Meet Curtis McDaniel, he will be signing his book  Horseshoes and Hand Grenades at the store, this Saturday.-3 PM.  Mr. McDaniel has been an author for 15 years. In addition, Mr. McDaniel was a former TV news director, and TV and radio news reporter. He was the former Press Secretary, Speech Writer, and Media Advisor for those in elected political offices, including four governors. Mr. McDaniel took a year off from writing to travel and work on the ‘back side’ of race tracks all over the country, to get the background information for Horseshoes and Hand Grenades.

Sonny Anderson was  a jockey, a good jockey. No, he never won the Kentucky Derby but he was Marc McPhee’s best and oldest friend. Then he was murdered. McPhee has a past with an agency he is forbidden to talk about, but which includes dark and dangerous missions.

Sonny’s killers will find McPhee takes great offence when anyone harms his friends. He will go to any length, even an unholy alliance with the Mafia to seek revenge. More than revenge, McPhee seeks to find for himself a new life and a love to replace the one lost so long ago.

Join us this weekend for the last of March Serenity, La Grange’s answer to all the March Madness.  Start the weekend off on Friday evening by stopping by  Karen’s and getting your copy of Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest by archivist Sharon A. Receveur and our very own Tavia P. Cathcart, a natualist and the Executive Director of Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve in Goshen.  Sharon and Tavia will be signing from 6-8 pm.

 Next on your journey is Gallery 104, they have an amazing show opening of Oldham County landscapes by local “plein air” artists ( En plein air is a French expression which means “in the open air”, and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors).  Gallery 104 in located across the street at 104 E. Main.  The opening will be from 6-8 pm on Friday night.  Afterwards you can enjoy dinner at one of our wonderful local resturants: Big R’s Barbeque, Irish Rover Too, or Serendipty Cafe, all within walking distance.

Then on Saturday……..you can visit the James Beaumont Community Center for the other activities of “Paint the Town”.

Painters, photographers, writers, potters and people who can help you channel your creativity are available to help you tap into that inner “mad” center!

This event coincides with a writer’s seminar, held at the Oldham County Public Library. Featured speakers at this event include James Daniel Ross (published science-fiction author); Kim Richardson (author of “The Unbreakable Child”); and, Kim Jacobs (owner of Turquoise Morning Press) among others.

Also visit Friends and Fiber where they will be having wool spinning demostrations.

Friday Night Live (the second Friday of every month)

Shops are open until 8:00 pm and this month we will be celebrating National Poetry Month.  

Spring has sprung and the limericks are flowing, now is the time to enjoy today!  Well I may not be a poet, but come and find out there is a little poet in all of us.  This will be great night to come out with friends and family, be creative, and relax after a wild week of having the kids home for spring break.

Thursday night local author Toni Toney will be signing her new book “The EcoDiet”.  The EcoDiet is the result of Toni’s 25 years working as a Body Ecologist and Whole Foods Chef for those looking for a more holistic way of living, and with those who suffered from major illnesses that none of their doctors were able to cure or even help.  Please join us for a signing and a seminar from 7 pm until 8:30 pm.  You owe it to yourself to see what Toni has discovered.

Paint Our Town Pink

 Thursday night, September 9th is Girls Night Out and everyone is invited to put on your pink and come out to enjoy La Grange.  While you are out and about you will have different opportunities to help us make a difference.  We will have door prizes, special “pink ladies”, music and more.  Karen’s will be welcoming Judith Elmer from 5-9 pm to sign her new daily devotional Hallelujah! On Saturday, August 28th,  Karen’s will be welcoming Jim Miller, a local author.  Jim will be signing from 10 am to 4 pm.  Jim’s book is Counter Intelligence: World War ll’s Silent Soldiers.  Counter Intelligence is a historical fiction, but if you love spy stories you’ll love this poignant story of a young man’s coming of age during WWII.  Jim has based Counter Intelligence on stories from his father and his Counter Intelligence Corps buddies.  Please take the time on Saturday, to visit with Jim and take home a wonderful book.

Ironman

Sunday, August 29th

  This is Ironman weekend in Louisville, so La Grange takes on an international flavor.  There are over 2000 registered athletes that will be bicycling through Oldham County on Sunday. So with road detours and road closures it the perfect day to come up to La Grange on a day when most things are closed.  The stores will be open, there will be a limited Farmer’s Market, entertainment for the children and a chance to show the world that La Grange in a great place to be.  Karen’s will be open 8 am until 3 pm, most shops will open at 9 am, so come and visit.

I hope everyone is recovering from the Derby and the rain. I just wanted to send out a note to let you know that on Thursday, May 13th will be our first Girls Night Out of the season.  The theme is Cowgirl Up and it is your opportunity to lasso bargains and fun. Bring your girlfriends and kick off summer. Here in the store we will have the added bonus of Thomas Freese signing his latest book.  He will be here 7-9 pm with samples of his work and his new book Making Wood Jewelry: Southwest Style.  

Spring Fling

Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 22nd.  The Farmer’s Market will be open, Antique Iron Tractor Club will be on display, and the stores will have our annual sidewalk sale.

Please take time to check out the new addition to our website. We have been working on listing books on Amazon and with the help of Jamie of Webchanga we now have those books available through our site. You can visit our Amazon store and if we don’t have it online you can order from the other suppliers from Amazon. We are still MORE than happy to look here in the store, but hopefully this will allow us to have even more books available for you.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season.  As usual time has gotten away from me, but I do want to take the time to THANK EVERYONE for their support this year.  We have more great authors coming in January.

Local authors Bryan Bush and Thomas Freese will be here discussing and signing their new book  Haunted Battlefields of the South.  This is good read for history buffs and ghost story buffs alike.

Christmas Day Closed

Saturday Dec. 26th open 9 am to 6 pm

Monday through Wednesday the normal 7 am to 6 pm

New Years Eve we will be open 7 am to 5 pm

New Years Day closed

Saturday January 2 closed

Monday January 4th we will resume our regular store hours.

We are closing Monday through Wednesday at 6 pm, but if you ever need a place to meet please call me and perhaps we can make special arrangements.

Also, please leave me comments concerning how you feel about the store.  I will not publish any comment unless you give me permission, I am the only one to view them if you don’t want them shared.  I am in the process of planning and just would like input  from my customers whether it’s something you like or dislike.
