On Saturday, August 28th,  Karen’s will be welcoming Jim Miller, a local author.  Jim will be signing from 10 am to 4 pm.  Jim’s book is Counter Intelligence: World War ll’s Silent Soldiers.  Counter Intelligence is a historical fiction, but if you love spy stories you’ll love this poignant story of a young man’s coming of age during WWII.  Jim has based Counter Intelligence on stories from his father and his Counter Intelligence Corps buddies.  Please take the time on Saturday, to visit with Jim and take home a wonderful book.

Ironman

Sunday, August 29th

  This is Ironman weekend in Louisville, so La Grange takes on an international flavor.  There are over 2000 registered athletes that will be bicycling through Oldham County on Sunday. So with road detours and road closures it the perfect day to come up to La Grange on a day when most things are closed.  The stores will be open, there will be a limited Farmer’s Market, entertainment for the children and a chance to show the world that La Grange in a great place to be.  Karen’s will be open 8 am until 3 pm, most shops will open at 9 am, so come and visit.

I hope everyone is recovering from the Derby and the rain. I just wanted to send out a note to let you know that on Thursday, May 13th will be our first Girls Night Out of the season.  The theme is Cowgirl Up and it is your opportunity to lasso bargains and fun. Bring your girlfriends and kick off summer. Here in the store we will have the added bonus of Thomas Freese signing his latest book.  He will be here 7-9 pm with samples of his work and his new book Making Wood Jewelry: Southwest Style.  

Spring Fling

Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 22nd.  The Farmer’s Market will be open, Antique Iron Tractor Club will be on display, and the stores will have our annual sidewalk sale.

Please take time to check out the new addition to our website. We have been working on listing books on Amazon and with the help of Jamie of Webchanga we now have those books available through our site. You can visit our Amazon store and if we don’t have it online you can order from the other suppliers from Amazon. We are still MORE than happy to look here in the store, but hopefully this will allow us to have even more books available for you.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season.  As usual time has gotten away from me, but I do want to take the time to THANK EVERYONE for their support this year.  We have more great authors coming in January.

Cathy Holloway Hill, motivational speaker, will be here signing her book Emotional Bailout: Nine Princliples For Rising When Your World is Falling.    Definitely a good way to start off the new year and recover from the stress of the holidays.

Local authors Bryan Bush and Thomas Freese will be here discussing and signing their new book  Haunted Battlefields of the South.  This is good read for history buffs and ghost story buffs alike.

Saturday February 27th.

The Oldham County Library will be hosting a writers seminar.  On Friday night we will have a wine reception and a chance to meet and discuss with the writers that will be presenting on Saturday.  Please check out the link  for Writers Seminar to find out more details

Just quickly I wanted to send you our holiday schedule.  I have been debating on times, but here we go:

Holiday Schedule

Christmas Eve we will be open 7 am to 1 pm

Christmas Day Closed

Saturday Dec. 26th open 9 am to 6 pm

Monday through Wednesday the normal 7 am to 6 pm

New Years Eve we will be open 7 am to 5 pm

New Years Day closed

Saturday January 2 closed

Monday January 4th we will resume our regular store hours.

We are closing Monday through Wednesday at 6 pm, but if you ever need a place to meet please call me and perhaps we can make special arrangements.

Also, please leave me comments concerning how you feel about the store.  I will not publish any comment unless you give me permission, I am the only one to view them if you don’t want them shared.  I am in the process of planning and just would like input  from my customers whether it’s something you like or dislike.

Along those lines, Historic La Grange stores will be hosting trick or treating on Oct. 31st 10 am to 4 pm. Keep up on details by visiting Discover Downtown La Grange’s facebook page. It’s for children of all ages, come and enjoy the show even if you don’t like to dress up. Shop owners and customers alike get into the “spirit” of things.  If you are looking for other entertainment for Halloween, consider taking the Spirits of La Grange Ghost Tour.  You have the opportunity to learn the history of La Grange and some of the more active residence.

Summer Reading!!

This is also the heralding of  the “summer reading list”, as soon as we can we will have the local schools’ list posted on our site. On a more fun topic, share your favorite beach book or relaxation book with us under the reviews.  Part of enjoying a good read is being able to share it with others.

New Store Hours!!

I can’t believe Derby is already over.  Join us tonight, May 7th, for Girls Night Out.  We will be celebrating spring with a “Gypsy Carnival”.  For those that enjoy “Psychic Fairs”  we have several opportunities throughout town to have a miniature reading for a nominal fee.  The stores will have specials and it’s the first opportunity of the season to register for the door prizes that will be given away in November.  Check in at The Couture Closet and receive your schedule for the evening and then enjoy!!  At 8:00 pm join us at Miss Casey’s Dance Studio (enter from the alley behind Karen’s Book Barn & Java Stop) for a free bellydancing workshop with Mahasti.

The Model T’s are coming!!

Join us tomorrow night for an Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social Sponsored by Blue Bell Ice Cream and Sweet On La Grange.   The Dixie Sizzlers, a Dixieland Band, sponsored by Arch L. Heady- Radcliffe Funeral Home will entertain us 6 pm-9pm.  You’ll be able to enjoy the Model T’s and the music!

Local Author Lynn Tincher

Lynn will be here signing her book “Afterthoughts” this Saturday, May 9th.  Visit  Lynn’s website  to read the first chapter, then you’ll be hooked. This is a great way to spend time with your mother for lunch and a book signing.  Lynn will be here 1-3, see you then.

Local Author Bill Ashabraner

Come and meet Billy Ashabraner, he’ll be here signing his “Billy Ashabraner’s: Insights into to Racing”.  Billy is a handicapper, turned trainer/owner, with his book he “explains the winning game.”  Billy’s book will be a wonderful Father’s Day Gift for the racing lover.  Billy will be here Saturday, May 16th from 11-2. 

Rifficolona

We will be celebrating Rifficolone!  Come to La Grange for a little taste of Italy.  We will be having our annual sidewalk sale, plein air artist, pottery demostrations, and more fun to celebrate “the festival of lanterns”.   This is also the official opening of our Farmers’ Market and Artisans join us at  8:00 am until 1:00 pm every Saturday morning through October 31st.  Another sign, summer is on the way, please join us for all the festivities.
