About
“Adding Character and Flavor to La Grange since 1998”
In 1998, I purchased The Book Barn here on Main Street in La Grange, KY, and renamed it Karen’s Book Barn. I wanted to blend the ten years history of the store with my personal style and commitment to the new business.
In 1999 Rita approached me about adding the coffee shop to compliment our readers’ environment. A wonderful friendship was forged as Rita’s “The Coffee Depot” was added. We began the first of several remodeling projects and The Coffee Depot opened on December 3, 1999, during Light Up La Grange. Rita owned and operated The Coffee Depot for over two years and many other friendships were formed. Then Alena’s Java Stop was born when Rita sold the shop to my longtime friend. We got to move more equipment and mix things up a little more. Change is good, right? In 2004 I took the plunge and purchased the coffee shop from Alena, merging it with the bookstore. Welcome to Karen’s Book Barn & Java Stop. (We still like to move things)
Now four years later Ruth, Ellen, Marie, Veronica, and Eric help me to welcome you into our store. We are also blessed to have Amanda, Shannon, Laura and Bridget to help when they are in from college. Our goal is always it make sure you have a wonderful experience when you come to Karen’s Book Barn & Java Stop.
With over 30,000 new and used books, we are definitely adding character to La Grange (not to mention all of our colorful regulars). The flavor comes from locally roasted coffee from Safai Enterprises and more than 40 syrup flavors we offer.
We hope to see you soon!!
Karen
